With a recognition of how colour, combined with structures can be used to create an atmosphere of mood without words, was one style James related to naturally. He is inspired by the paintings of American Realist painter Edward Hopper, along with Canadian Realist / Impressionism painter Manly MacDonald. James paints both local and imagined landscapes. Atmosphere is developed through colours that

reveal the time of day or night. The paintings show scenes from all 4 seasons, and are a "snap shot" of life often using a colourful palette and light. All the paintings are framed and the back is covered paper and wired to hang. Paintings are in oil paint and have a UV protectant clear coat and very in size from 3" x 9" to 4' x 5' in size.
