The debut of James' new series of paintings have been well received. In the very first gallery showing of this work, "Avocado, Ham & Cheese", was accepted in the Station Gallery's Juried Art Show - "Life's Moods" winning 3rd place (Dec. 13/23) in the adult division of the show.
Recently (May 2025 - Pelham Art Festival), the painting The Big Burg" was awarded 1 st place
"Best in Painting" by the jury committee of the Juried Pelham Art Festival.

This current series of work, showcases another exploration of technique in painting through mixed media. This definition of such a varied medium includes a wide variety of items to be used in the creation of artistic expression. As a painting, James' work reflects his sculptural influences to each of the canvas' in this series. Each painting projects a relief from the surface that creates and aids in the 3D effect of the subject matter. For this series of work, James thought back to the various topics that artists throughout the history of art have focused on. Traditional themes were landscapes, people, animals and food.
Thinking about how food is such an important staple in

our existence, made this the topic to explore. Food is also a "popular" topic today in our society on
many different levels. This too inspired James to think about the presentation of the work, that shows elements of Pop Art within their composition. The area of focus in this topic was narrowed to "sandwiches", the basic staple of food. As mixed media pieces, each are composed of found, made, real and created "items" that have been painted to become a part of the overall composition. Each work is a composed still frame, offering the "presentation" of the selected type of sandwich. Thought has gone into the inclusion of condiments / accessories that are also important to the viewer's memory of such images.

Work varies in scale from 16" x 16", 16" x 20" to 18" x 24" inches. Many come framed in a black wood floater frame, or painted on thick "gallery" style canvas - unframed, all canvas' show paper covered backings & are ready to hang.

These paintings would work well where ever food is served.
